Last evening we were treated to an example of a young person, from our community, climbing the highest mountain in Africa; undergoing extreme physical and mental stresses to raise funds for fellow students. Aimee, is a great a credit to herself, her parents and her community; what a great example for other young people in our community to follow.

Rotarians from the north of the District flexed their intellectual muscles @ The Hermitage Inn last evening in their Annual Quiz. RAW were last year's winners (when it was much harder) and so hosted this year's event. The group doing the most flexing on the night were Rotary Berwick, pictured lifting the coveted trophy. Our congrats. to them and our thanks to all those who supported the event, and to the "Hermie" for a super buffet supper. Our thanks must also go to our Quiz Master, long serving Rotarian, Alan Jones

Today we welcomed the Oswin Project as corporate members. Shown is President Trevor inducing Rev Fiona Sample MBE. The ceremony was at the Oswin Project Farm Shop just outside the grounds,of HMP Northumberland where you can find fresh produce from their market garden, various items of wooden garden furniture, a selection of suitably healthy foodstuffs and a bicycle repair shop. Much of the produce is created by those inside the walls as part of the project’s support for rehabilitation and offering a second chance. Ourphotographer, Richard, has artistically arranged a selection of volunteers and their wares.
RAW, as part of our community outreach programme, is heavily involved with Oswin particularly with their garden team producing plants for sale at RAW’s stands throughout the year.
As always, our President was keen to show his professionalism and prowess. In this case by recreating a bike scene from Butch Cassidy. “Riding a bike, is just like riding a bike” stated Trevor as he exited the grounds.
Welcome to our new members: Rev Fiona Sample, Caroline Chrisp and Emma Turnbull.

RAW went to the Red Row Vintage Rally yesterday and what a rally it was. Someone , somewhere had put a great deal of effort into creating that weekend .....thanks for inviting us along. There were vehicles we passed our tests in, too long ago, cars we once owned and cars we always wanted to own. .....and those steam engines, lorries, tractors, &tc. We were trying to show Rotary's role in our community, demonstrating the Aquabox filter sytem purifying contaminated water, and testing reflexes on the "Splat the Rat", and generally helping out with marshalling on Saturday

RAW members are pictured fulfilling their traditional roles @ the Warkworth Show. In addition they installed the necessary signage throughout the village to facilitate visitors attending the show. Plant sales went well and "Splat the Rat" was enormously popular with our youg visitors - and some Rotarians! Our thanks to all those Warkworthians who devote so much time and energy to making the Warkworth Show happen every year.

Last evening RAW member and Aquabox Ambassador Alun Morgan demonstrated what a huge impact a £35 water pump can have on so many people's lives. One child dies every 90 seconds from water borne diseases; wars, floods, natural disasters, etc. are the usual causes. Alun demonstrated how contaminated water is made safe to drink using Aquabox's pump. The whole project was started by the Rotary Club of Wirksworth in 1992 and is still a volunteer-based operation.

Last evening RAW staged the Village Treasure Hunt, despite the ravages of Storm Floris. The evening turned out to be positively balmy! Everyone found their way to Warkworth Cricket Club where Phil and Ian had prepared food and nourishing drinks.Three teams tied for second place and the eventual "Runner up" was none other than our PR man, and reigning champion Richard Booth, whom we thank for the photograph. The Chair of Warkworth Parish Council, and Honorary Rotarian, Ann Burke is pictured lifting the Treasure for this year.

Another great evening with RAW. We hosted Peter from Northumberland Northumbria Blood Bikes @ Warkworth Cricket Club. A grand buffet supper from Topsey Turvy's was followed by a demonstration of outstanding and committed voluntary service to our community. These individuals are carrying emergency blood, blood products, etc between hospitals and to the GNAAS between 7.00pm and 7.00am - 24/7 365 days a year. Since their beginings in 2014 they have completed over 120,000 deliveries. Absolutely amazing. President Trevor is pictured reliving his boyhood dreams and wishing. Pictures by Rtn Richard Booth.

A good number of supporters had a grand evening @ Warkworth Cricket Club on Sunday to support local student Aimee in her quest to raise funds for Student Mind. Final totals are still to be arrived at but informed guesses suggest that C. £500 might be achieved! Well done Aimee, and RAW! Aimee will soon be off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise even more funds for her chosen charity. We wish her well and leave an open invitation for her to visit us and tell us about her adventures. Good Luck Aimee!

Members of RAW recently undertook an "educational/historic" pub tour of Alnwick, under the guidance of Tom Allen. Members appear to be pleading with the managment to let them back into the establishment, and subsequently trying their luck round the back.
It was a great success. So too is Tom's book, raising over £5000 for the local Hospice,

Another super RAW event last evening in the company of Dr.Paul Morrison. His life and work on Coquet Island has given him fascinating insights and knowledge about "our" island, some of which he shared with us. We seriously hope you will come back and share a few more of those insights with us in the very near furture.

Tonight we hosted Jonathon Booth, Head of NCEA Warkworth Primary, and Anna Morrison, Chair of their new "Friends" Group. Immediate plans for the group sounded good. Their longer-term visions and strategies, however, seemed to offer an exciting vista of possibilities for so many groups in our area, and would place the School very much in the heart of our community.............and the community in the heart of the School. We hope very much that RAW can be part of that development.

RAW members, families and friends enjoyed another momentus evening in the company of the first non-titled Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland, Dr. Caroline Pryer. She spoke about her achieving the role and her major activities to date. The modern role, apart from being the King's representative in the County, is so much about community involvement and encouragment of charity/voluntary activities and organisations; a role for which she is eminently qualified by her own examples. President Trevor is pictured presenting a small "thank-you" for another great evening in RAW.
