January 2021 RAW members prepare the Town Square flower bed and plant spring bulbs
November 2020 Amble and Warkworth Rotarians completed the final phase of a 14 yr project to plant wild-flower meadows all along the landward side of Rotary Way. The last remaining stretch of verge was prepared and seeded ready for what we hope will be a glorious spectacle next summer. In addition, 40,000+ crocuses have been planted along the seaward side of Rotary way, serving to remind everyone of Rotary's campaign to eliminate Polio from the planet. Each purple flower symbolises a child vaccinated, and recognised by the purple dye on their little finger.
November 2020 RAW members began the replanting and maintenance of the Town Square planter, socially distanced and full of enthusiasm. We have recieved a grant towards the long term costs of planting and maintenance and hope to help refurbish the Town Square and make it a place people will enjoy........more in keeping with our new status as a tourist destination. Members plant various spring flowering bulbs which we look forward to seeing next year. We plan to have a year-long sequence of flowering plants a shrubs throughout the year.
November 2019 Another 4000 crocuses planted along Rotary Way
Another 4000 crocuses were planted on Rotary Way this morning, lightening an otherwise dull morning. Thanks to Lord's Hire for the use of their brute of a turf remover, we were able to complete the planting within 2 hours. When you see the purple crocuses next Spring, remember the millions of children who have been immunised against polio, thanks to Rotary and The Bill Gates Foundation. Over 300,000 children per year were killed or crippled by this disease before Rotary started on it's quest to rid the planet of this vile disease. So far this year there have been 16 reported cases world wide.....so close to our aim! They will also look quite splendid!!
ROTARY SUPPORTING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE................. President David, DG.Terry Long and members of Rotary Amble and Warkworth are pictured taking a break from talking and coffee drinking to paint the boundary fences at Brambles Child Care Centre in Amble. This is the first stage of a planned, longer-term involvement with the centre.
June 27 June, 2019
Elpha Lodge residents are pictured excitedly awaiting the arrival of the Wetwheels catermaran into Amble Marina this morning. Was the wait worth it? ....of course it was!!! Rotary Amble and Warkworth were so very pleased to be involved this morning; it gave us huge pleasure to see the excitment ......and the beautiful weather conditions. Our thanks go also to a great bunch of people whose idea it was to fund and build this super special boat and then to bring it to Amble. Days like today make being a Rotarian so rewarding!
ELPHA LODGE PROJECT Elpha Lodge is a residential home for less-able adults in Broomhill. Two years ago we were able to donate £2000, which was used to create a garden of raised beds, so that residents could enjoy closer contact with the garden. This current year we will be donating a further £200.
