Another great evening with RAW. We hosted Peter from Northumberland Northumbria Blood Bikes @ Warkworth Cricket Club. A grand buffet supper from Topsey Turvy's was followed by a demonstration of outstanding and committed voluntary service to our community. These individuals are carrying emergency blood, blood products, etc between hospitals and to the GNAAS between 7.00pm and 7.00am - 24/7 365 days a year. Since their beginings in 2014 they have completed over 120,000 deliveries. Absolutely amazing. President Trevor is pictured reliving his boyhood dreams and wishing. Pictures by Rtn Richard Booth.

Members of RAW recently undertook an "educational/historic" pub tour of Alnwick, under the guidance of Tom Allen. Members appear to be pleading with the managment to let them back into the establishment, and subsequently trying their luck round the back.
It was a great success. So too is Tom's book, raising over £5000 for the local Hospice,

Pictures from yesterdays Rotary Hadrian's Wall Walk in aid of Rotary's End Polio Programme. Members completed a 5.5 mile section finishing at Housteads along with members of Rotary Alnwick and Washington Forge. Happy to report that our combined group completed our section of the wall walk within the three hour deadline!

Another super RAW event last evening in the company of Dr.Paul Morrison. His life and work on Coquet Island has given him fascinating insights and knowledge about "our" island, some of which he shared with us. We seriously hope you will come back and share a few more of those insights with us in the very near furture.

Tonight we hosted Jonathon Booth, Head of NCEA Warkworth Primary, and Anna Morrison, Chair of their new "Friends" Group. Immediate plans for the group sounded good. Their longer-term visions and strategies, however, seemed to offer an exciting vista of possibilities for so many groups in our area, and would place the School very much in the heart of our community.............and the community in the heart of the School. We hope very much that RAW can be part of that development.

RAW members, families and friends enjoyed another momentus evening in the company of the first non-titled Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland, Dr. Caroline Pryer. She spoke about her achieving the role and her major activities to date. The modern role, apart from being the King's representative in the County, is so much about community involvement and encouragment of charity/voluntary activities and organisations; a role for which she is eminently qualified by her own examples. President Trevor is pictured presenting a small "thank-you" for another great evening in RAW.

Like many of our gatherings based on interesting speakers, last evening was open to members of the public. Last evening we met @ the new Harbour Office in Amble and Karen Park explained how she had added value by pressing oil from their own rapeseed, by producing crisps from Buston Potatoes. She also brought along some "goodies" for us to try............always welcome! Such an achievement while maintaining family life, and appearing on the James Martin programme.
Thank you Karen for a great evening.

An inspiring evening @ RAW last night. Lara spoke about Seeds2Trees involving increasing numbers in our community planting tree seeds, and nuturing them ready for planting. She stressed the importance of planting trees for future generations to enjoy, and their impact on our environment and health.

RAW members start the planting of 000's of self-naturalising Daffodil bulbs along Rotary Way. Other members began a litter-pick. Bulbs were donated by NCC and Rtn. Mike Wyllie. Watch out for the daffs next Spring. They will multiply over subsequent years.

Yet another great night @ RAW! Our guests were Laura and Liz from The Samaritans. We learned so much from them last night, mainly about how poor some of us are at listening, and not trying to impose our thoughts,values and ideas onto other people. Wonderful, but demanding work that the volunteers do!

RAW members, and friends, were involved yesterday in trying to clean up the very large Warkworth Beach. This is very much part of RAW's increasing role in environmental issues and our increasing involvement with local environmental groups. This was organised by Warkworth Green Matters events organiser Rotarian Llynne Russell and was part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean.....great job everyone!

On Tuesday 10th RAW members and their guests were introduced to some of the problems facing a number of women in our community. The Women's Workshop is trying to address many of those problems in many different ways. We were surprised to learn of those problems and the Workshop's programmes to deal with them. Thank you Angela for sharing your experiences with us. You seem to have created a great environment for socialising, learning, and enjoying life.

RAW members were out in high-viz again yesterday @ Red Row Vintage Rally. We managed to keep our gazebo on terra firma despite the wind, and had a great time until the rain started. We met many nice people and saw many vehicles which were once commonplace to some of us older members - cars we once owned, learnt to drive in, drove as part of jobs and those we often wished for. Great day Rally organisers, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

RAW members fulfill their traditional role for the Warkworth Show Cttee. organising the signage and the car parking on the day. However, today we also had our own stall, selling wildflower plants, giving information about Rotary and running a "Pot Luck" venture.

Emily Ross from the Stronger Shores Project outlined the policy of using seagrass, kelp and oysters to strengthen our shorelines - particularly up here in the NE where an abundance of these things has gone seen a very serious decline.
Strengthen these and we could be improving water quality and reducing risks of flooding.

What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon - fabulous gardens, lovely visitors, tea, cakes, raffle prizes, plants to buy, antiques valued........ and lots of sunshine.The fact that we were able to raise funds for local needy causes was a bonus!

The Warkworth Treasure Hunt ...............Another great night @ Rotary Amble and Warkworth!
Members, families and friends put together 11 teams to complete our Treasure Hunt around the village of Warkworth. We were blessed with a fine, dry evening with everyone eventually finishing at Warkworth Cricket Club for a Bar-B-Q supper. There were loads of children who controlled their parents very well.
The winners were "Team Top Dogs" who claimed the "Treasure".

Another eventful and enjoyable evening @ The Hermitage Inn, with our speaker Matty Cairns from the Northumberland Fire and Rescue. His information was reassuring and positive about the future of the service and about the direction in which it is moving. There were also cautionary tales - I will no longer leave my phone charging overnight!!!
Sharing the evening with us were 10 visitors from Rotary Morpeth.
The evening was made even better when President Trevor welcomed two new members to our group, Julia and Lynne. Their interests in the environment will take RAW even further along that path.

Fiona Sample, CEO of the Oswin Project talked to Amble and Warkworth Rotary club about the work of this charity. Working with prisoners in HMP Northumberland, as well as ex-offenders who have completed their prison sentences, the charity offers second chances to people through mentoring, training and employment in the North East of England. Rotarians heard about the cafe and farm shops that the charity runs in HMP Northumberland, the cafe in Newcastle Cathedral, as well as the Inside & Out landscaping and gardening projects. Fiona talked about how these projects are making a positive difference on the lives of these individuals, as well as the impact it is also making for Society by reducing re-offending. |

4th July, 2022 RAW members were pictured lending a hand as Elpha Lodge user groups boarded the Wetwheels vessel for an excitedly anticipated outing this afternoon. Thank you Wetwheels for looking after our very special friends.

RAW members, led and inspired by Dr.Paul Creighton, worked for over 14 years to create a safe, pleasant and environmentally friendly area which could be enjoyed by both communities and all the visitors which now come to our area. That effort involved planting wildflower areas, 20,000+ crocuses, poppies and all the new assorted wildlife. That effort has now been recognised by Rotary North East, with the award of the District Environmental award.

Our sponsored Young Writer Lillian Tibbitts has now won first place at each age group of the competition at ROTARY NE level...........an excellent achievement!
Her submission this year has also won the National Level Competition organised by Rotary International in Great Britainand Ireland...............she is the Senior Level Rotary Young Writer for 2021/22.
